Andrea van der Straeten

A cheerful folk dance group passes over a square decorated with colorful flags. The people are presumably from southeast European countries. In the figure of the hurriedly passing woman with her back turned, the cheerful mood represented by the decorated public space and the laughing women can be turned around: is this photo a scene from a piece about public space as a carneval fair, or about the topic of "excess immigration“? The endless impulses from the media are unclear; does every person dressed in non-local costume signal an event, or rather the need for restrictive immigration laws?
