The point of departure for this photo set with dramatic action is the court scene in Shakespeare’s Merchant of Venice, in which the Jewish money lender Shylock demands that the conditions of his agreement be kept: if Antonio is unable to pay, Shylock may cut his heart out. Here, migrants living in Graz are portrayed, not without ethnic references to their current habitat. In contrast to the plot of Hitler's favorite play, "the Jew" leaves the scene against the backdrop of the train station, renounces payment, bringing upon himself the wrath of the court, which will later allow deportation of Shylock's descendants.
