The historic language of symbols of our public spaces, with its roots in our culture, forms the starting point for photographic accretions. The photo of a deer’s antlers from a comfortable lounge hangs over the statue of the Blessed Virgin. Between the antlers of the hunting trophy shines the cross of St Hubertus, reminding us of the way in which a popular drink has also profaned Christian iconography. The opposition of these symbols becomes itself a striking icon of the material and Christian worlds which the artists perceive to be the spiritual foundation of the region.
