Roman Ondak

It is not a decoration for a festival or a banner with a slogan that hangs over the balcony of the town hall, but an ordinary oriental carpet. Even if the question of how and why it came to be there remains unanswered, its obviously prominent position, un-staged though it is, lends it a symbolism that is no accident. We cannot escape the thought that the seat of government and the parliament of Graz should possibly be addressed through this photograph as the political centre of gravity of all the city’s inhabitants. A splash of cultural and social colour on the grey façade.
